Trivandrum is a small, nice city nestled in the southern part of India. Even though it is a capital city of the small state of Kerala (known all over the world as Gods Own Country) (www.keraltoursim.org), it defies its status due to its modest size and development. It is a town or a city that makes living in a city, a pleasure. The air is clean, water good, there are good housing, educational and recreational facilities. It is very rare that you will find hill stations and beaches closely around a city but then at Trivandrum, you can always frequent hill stations or scenic beaches as you like. Trivandrum is aptly known as a Knowledge city with a large cluster of academic, R&D and medical institutions are located within and around the city. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), University of Kerala, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) are few amongst them. The College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET), IITM-K are reputed engineering institutes in government sector apart from several good institutions in private sector offering quality educational programmes.
A few medical device industries are also located in and around Trivandrum. HLL Lifecare Ltd, Terumo Penpol Ltd, TTK Healthcare Ltd, Vinvish Technologie are the prominent ones. Most of them are industrial partners of SCTIMST for technologies developed at the Institute.
As part of Innovation ecosystem, Trivandrum is headquarters of Kerala Start Up Mission (https://startupmission.kerala.gov.in/) which has the stated mission "To Create a Startup Eco-system in the state".
A FABLAB is now functional at Trivandrum in the IIIM-K campus which provides technical prototyping platform for everyone on a chargeable basis. This small scale workshop offering digital fabrication will empower you to create smart devices which can be tailored to local or personal needs very quickly and at a very low cost.
Trivandrum is also home to TECHNOPARK- one of India’s largest, most successful and lively IT park which is now home to 300 big and small IT companies and provides employment to about 46,000 people. TECHNOPARK has provided Trivandrum with a delightful cosmopolitan mix of people and culture.
The proposed Life Sciences Park, Trivandrum being developed by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (www.ksidc.org) which is poised to become one of the largest life science parks in the country is only 30 kilometers from TIMed campus.
TIMed is located within the Trivandrum city, with 4 km from the Trivandrum Central railway station and 10 km from the Trivandrum International airport.
